Gekko's Showburps display a blatant disrespect of modern icons and the cult culture that pervades
western society. Through the juxtaposition of the title and by defacing these instantly recognisable images, Gekko highlights the duality and contradiction of the public's fascination with fame
and celebrity - on the one hand affording them a (unasked for and undeserved) status as role-models and demi-gods, whilst on the other castigating them for their inevitable
downfall.
